For those of you who are missing my biweekly ramblings here’s a post from me, about what I’ve been up to. and what's been going on with the club.

Hey up again guys. For those of you who are missing my biweekly ramblings here’s one (well probably not the only one, just the first) post from me, about what I’ve been up to. All in all the holiday’s got off to a bad start, with me being unable to persuade my Dad that before giving me a lift home (I like living close :) ) that he’d like to join me at Yearsley pool’s last octopush session of the Decade. Meaning that unfortunately I had to miss out, or pay for and get a cold train home). It was a hard choice but in the end I decided to go with my lift. After all carrying a suitcase, school books and a bag of octopush kit, so I could join in with my home club, on the train was not an experience that I was looking forward to. So it was back to Ossett where I’d have to wait until Wednesday for my push fix. Except for one flaw: My octopush kit was (and still is) sitting on the kitchen floor at my house in York, ready to be loaded into the car 3 weeks ago. Doh. Hopefully I’ll manage to get to York on time in order to join in with our more local members of the club on their first session back tomorrow (2 days before the uni club’s first Monday session and a week before our first Saturday session)

Anyway, the reason that all you lovely people are getting this blog style post from me is that we’ve got a wonderful website, which hardly gets used. So in an attempt to rectify this problem it was decided at the end of last term that each member of the committee would be press ganged into asked nicely to write an article for the website this term, giving almost weekly updates. Some of them may be informative about what’s going on behind the scenes of the club or what new events are coming up for the club, while some may just be chatty about how they’re feeling about push at the time. Hopefully in the future we won’t need to “ask” our elected members to volunteer to write as we’ll have articles flooding in left, right and centre for all members of the club. If you feel that you’d make a good writer, want to try your hand at something new, or maybe just want to help out in a one off way, then writing articles for the University of York Octopush Club (uyoc for short as you’ll see if you look above) website may be for you. Two ideas to get you started from me are match reports (the matches are coming soon, I’ve seen the emails, yay Sam), and features on yourself in the club, possibly including how you find the club, what made you join, how you’re finding the sport and what you think of my wonderful hair.

One of the things that’s been on my mind over the holidays is our major tournament of the year coming up down in Oxford. The student nationals. Unfortunately over the holidays news came in that only student members of clubs were allowed to play in the tournament, which, while different to what I’d been told previously, is now in the official rule set of the tournament and therefore we’re likely going to have to follow them. The main consequence of this (apart from losing some great players) is that we’re unlikely to be able to field two teams as previously hoped. That is unless during the next 2 weeks we get lot of new members who are extremely egger to play at the end of the term. Which if I’m being honest is unlikely.

However just because it’s unlikely that we’ll get enough new members willing to play in the student nationals, doesn’t mean that you should all stop trying to encourage your friends and flatmates to come along. In fact in order to make this even easier for you near the start of next term we should be holding a bring a friend session where everybody brings a friend. Keep an eye on Facebook, this site and your email for more.

I think that’s about it for now which unfortunately means I need to now either continue with revision or go to bed, bah. I’m missing each and every last one of you and hopefully will see you all again soon.
